  While looking for a gifting idea for kids, I happened to chance about an advertisement for mini remote control helicopters. At the height of their popularity, I’d be happy to count ten minutes between taking the soft toys out of their delivery enclosed seat and popping them into a carrier bag at the keeper of a record, ready to be taken home by yet another excitable customer. With a fan base ranging from toddler to grandparents, a sense of hysteria occasionally swamped the store and often left me tenderness besides like I was at a pop concert than in a stolid gift shop in the inclination of Suffolk. So what was it that led to the cult of TY beanie babies and that still exists today, fifteen years later?</p> <p>I often wonder what it is about being a collector that attracts so many of us. From stickers as a youngster to model airplanes later in life, purchasing every uncorrupt item in a range of consumerables has been a favourite pastime against decades. </p> <p>Perhaps it 's the faculty of perception of work it creates, or the sheer anticipation of collecting the next addition.   HUNDREDS of items of clothing, toys and toiletries are heading for Africa after pupils at two neighbouring Birmingham schools joined forces in a mammoth charity seek reference of the case.

  Children at both King Edward’s Camp Hill Girls and King Edward’s Camp Hill Boys, that share the same site in Vicarage Road, Kings Heath, took part in the Schools during Africa project after being encouraged by Selly Oak MP Lynne Jones.

  Pupils in Years 7-10 at the brace schools brought a wide range of vital items which are destined for orphaned children in Africa.

  Schools for Africa sends 1,300 boxes of toys, educational materials and clothes to organisations supporting children orphaned by HIV and Aids in Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

  This year, it is also raising money to buy food for children who are hit by the world food crisis.

  Pupils from the two King Edward’s Camp Hill schools brought enough goods, that also included crayons, writing pads, colouring books, yielding toys, combs and brushes, to fill encircling 25 boxes.

  They were collected by the MP who has invited around 45 schoolgirls and seven boys to Westminster on December 3 for a trip of Parliament and, for the older pupils, a briefing from the Department for International Development about the locality in Africa.

  Martin Garrod, deputy head at the boys’ school, said: “We are delighted with the replication from all the pupils to this appeal.

  “These are aggregate new items which were brought by the pupils to put into the boxes. Ours will exist going to Zimbabwe.

  “We have finished other shoebox and toy collections in the past, but this person, which was organised by the school council, appealed to everyone.”

  Lynne Jones MP said: “I am proud of the commitment to fighting poverty in Africa that the schools have shown and the pupils who contributed should be congratulated.”
